Brake pressure regulator.
Apologies for starting another post related to my previous topic, but i was wondering if anybody has any experience with the brake pressure regulators causing problems with the braking system.

In which case you should have the cylindrical brake proportioning valves under the master cylinder? Having had 50 (or 60 or 70 I forget which) Sciroccos - most of them mk2s - I've never had a problem with them. That said, I do recall cases of folk wanting to rebuild them so it must be at least "possible' for them to fail.
Far more likely is the master cylinder itself. I'm surprised your mechanic didn't advise replacing this?
As mentioned in the other thread, it's also possible that the rear brake cylinders have been replaced with the earlier ones. I'd replace these anyway given they're so cheap.

God you've had a lot of cars. Anyway i've never heard of the regulator fialing either . Even though my mechanic swears blind it is just because he had a vauxhall corsa in with same problem last week.
Anyway as i've fallen out with my mechanic i'm going to have to take the car somewhere else and have to pay. And if he can't sort things out by changing the brake pipes, cylinders and hoses it looks lie i'll be forking out for a master cylinder.
Problem with my mechanic is he always right or he thinks he is. He's 67 years old and set in his ways and slightly aggressive. And as i don't pay as i help out in the afternoons i can't contradict him.
