kent cam advice

Post by blackwedge »

Hi guys and girls,

I finally after a two and a half year wait have the reconditioned engine (DX) and gearbox in my beloved rocco, including a stainless manifold and jetex exhaust, she's now fully run in and goes really well and sounds amazing. My question is to you lovely people is: is it worth installing a kent cam? I understand there may be issues with lumpy idle and such and what adjustments if any need to be done to the injection system?

Any advice would be very welcome, she is not used for commuting mainly blatting around at the weekend.

Cheers

Scott

Depends on how mild or wild you go - I've got a 268 Schrick cam in a BRM 2-litre converted DX that is smooth enough and a Ken Cam in my Mk1 - see project thread. That's a bit more fizzy but it is an EG engine car so that's to be expected.

How much scope for blatting about on Jersey is there? I holidayed there in 1986 and don't recall many places to put the dire Cavalier Mk2 estate hire car through it's paces...

Enjoy getting the car back on the road regardless!

I have a Newman 268. Makes a noticible difference and idles fine. Lumpier cams make more power but higher up the rev range. A 272 Kent or Newman 268 will be perfect. Check out jmrclubsport.co.uk

Thanks folks for the advice, I think I will go for the newman 268 cam, its a good price and seems to have a better rep than the kent.

Once again thanks, have a great weekend.
