Mk 1 Gutter Trim

Post by Hilltop »

Hi, I needed a pair of these for a Mk1 project as my plastic ones were water damaged, I saw some on e-bay described as NOS, they were in plastic wrapping so could not be seen clearly. Anyhow I paid £175 for them and they arrived very well packaged. However when I got round to opening the box I found they were black metal, they are also thinner than the plastic chrome ones.

Anyone any idea which Mk1 they would be for ? Early cars maybe ?

Oh, I'm still looking for chrome ones and will probably sell the black ones soon.

Thanks for any help !

The early ones (upto around 1978) were thinner and metal which are better than the later plastic ones as they last alot longer, I don't think VW every made black ones but I could be wrong..... German spec cars....?

They are expensive so you may not want to try this as it may no work, remove the black paint and polish them back up, try on the back of 1 in a place you may not see?

Maybe see if someone wants black ones in swap for some chrome ones?

Get them re chromed?

Yes they are thinner - possibly German or US spec ?

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll try and exchange them for chrome ones.

Did you do anything with the black trims? Might be interested if you were selling them.
