does it need the heater on hot to keep the engine cool enuf?

Yeah i have to have heater on to keep it out the red.
Not got around to fitting it yet,rellies all weekend,so have to put new stat in tomorrow.

Went out in the roc today,checked my front tyres,bad bad wear on the inner 1 inch of tread,need to get my Koni`s on asap and buy 2 more tyres now too

Bought a new stat and fitted,no change,coming down a14 last week,i started getting steam and hot water blowing out the screen vents and it started blowing steam out from the expansion tank lid.
Managed to limp home.
Got a new matrix on order,took old one out ,which was split,and sitting in 2 inches of water in the plastic housing,was a pig of a job,but got the new one in.Still getting hot though,so still having to use heater to cool it down,looks like it`s my water pump.That takes it`s drive off the cam belt .

Undecided now,could do with a new belt,as i have done 30 odd thou in it,and god knows when it last had a belt,but it`s a p reg and not sure if it`s worth spending money on to fix it,needs new rear shoes,last mot he said poss need new front struts,and new front brake lines.thats due Jan .

the brake lines will be due to rust i presume? so long as it is only light surface rust on them, clean them with wire wool and smear on a little grease to keep the rust at bay. the front struts will probably get an advisory for a few years before they actually fail. set of rear shoes ill cost you around a tenner and are dead easy to fit yourself (can email instructions with pics if you need them) and the cambelt will take you a couple of hours with help from mr haynes. if you put a new pump on it'll need a new belt, plus replace the idler/tensioner too (if you don't the tension of a new belt that hasn't stretched will see it off in a month or two, and that can get expensive!)

once you've got it all fitted and before you start it, turn the engine over for at least 2 complete revolutions and then check all the timing marks still line up (the one thing haynes don't always mention)

Cgeers mate All stuff i have done on the roc really,brakes on the back must be more straight forward than roc ones !

Could do the pump and belt etc,but i can claim it back on my tax,as it`s a work van,will call my bloke and see what he says,he did offer me the use of the village garage to do the work on the roc,on a sat,so think he would offer me use for the van too with his help,for beer tokens.
Will see what happens....



Had a real spaz moment on Sat morn,i moved my oil pres and temp gauges,but popped a fues for interior lights etc,changed fuse got interior lights etc back,but could not get lights to work,checked every fuse again,nothin,checked all plugs and connectons all ok.Had me stumped for about half hour,before i realised i was turning fog light switch and not light switch Idiot,it`s because i have not driven it at night for so long,don`t use lights very often

I did laugh at myself too,but was also getting a bit stressed as i was due to drive it Harlow to see friends for the night,and didn`t think i would get it fixed
