Update on Modified Braking.
for those that are interested in powerfull brakes and have the knowhow to do modifications,
i ended up having to brake really hard and as a result, my drivers wishbones had bent itself in the shape of a banana. ( yes a banana ) now after replacing with a newer wishbone ( 8 months new ) i have seen a company that do sheeted plates for added strength that need welding onto the current wishbones. if anyone is interested, then simply ask. now i understand that the original brakes wont do this, but its mainly based on the people doing the upgraded brakes/servo and m/s . - check those wishbones people

bugger me! i am amazed at that, what brakes have you got? i've seen people fully weld tubing into the v shape on the front and back seams which i assume would do a fair bit. where abouts did it twist?

Brown trowser moment perhaps? Going to fit some new arms to mine and weld the seams etc when the time comes around

I thought that the argument against strengthened wishbones, whether it is seam-welding or tubing, was that you will bend the body before the suspension if you kerb the car or hit potholes at speed.
I'd be interested to know what brakes you have, I've got upgraded brakes and never had an issue with bendy wishbones.

Sounds like iffy wishbones to me, very surprised they bent under braking.

yeah they are supposed to deform in an impact but I've never heard of them deforming under braking
to be honest there are tubular reinforced and adjustable style wishbones on the market for upgrading wishbones so i would be looking down that route rather than modify standard wishbones just to be on the safe side.
would like to see some pics of those plates tho shane

the scala is running the audi a3 servo but still on the 239mm setup.DT1 wrote:

this will need professionaly setting up but should be stronger than the origenal style

That's on 'mr hillclimber's car. He owns jmrclubsport.co.UK. he was looking into getting them made but was having difficulty finding a fabricator who would take on such a vital part of the car.

im suprised by that as there doesnt seem to be a lot of fabrication work there, most of it is off the self bought components.
i suppose at the very least i would run it past an engineering firm to double check material requirements ie tube wall thickness and thread strength requirements
