hi people. I have a 1986 GT scirocco. Standard except for a Weber on an aluminium mount and a Jetex exhaust. For the last few weeks, the car has been hard to start when the engine is warm. When it does start, it runs perfectly.
Last week, it decided to not start at all. It now turns over and backfires out the carb. Bought a new battery and new plugs and it started first time and idled perfectly.
So yesterday I started it, let it run 10 mins to get warm.turned it off for 10 minutes and we're back to turning over and shooting flames out the carb, which although it looks very cool, isn't ideal!
I have checked the timing several times and it's right, made sure the belt isn't a tooth out, run another earth to the starter and shouted at it a lot. The jets on the carb are clear, there doesn't appear to be a vacuum leak. Fuel filter looks clean enough.
It now seems to start OK when it's been sitting a while cold, just not when it's hot. And it does run fine when it goes. I'm running out of ideas now though!
Help!!!
Non starting problem. Help!
