I was just strolling down and noticed a picture of your wheels and tyres and you have 175/60/13, I think you have the wrong size tyres fitted, I have 175/70/13 fitted to mine as that's the standard size?
You may find the speedo over reads as the overall tyre size is smaller?

Well... What can I say about this ugly old girl.

In nearly 6 months and 1k miles, utterly faultless.

Biggest change is now I have the interior how I want it. Brown love...

Obviously the body work is next,I'm fully aware of this but she is such a joy to drive. Slow as hell mind. 20v are very cheap currently... Hmm...

Seems that the 83/84 gl models are a bit of a mixed bunch , my old y plate one was weirdly specced from new , 1800 injected motor exactly the same as my wife's 83 gt (which was of course a full blown gti) , single wiper and grey velour non sports interior, however, not the sports suspension ( it also had a front arb but not the rear one fitted)

Yes, '83/'84 cars are often a mixed bag of parts, depending on what VW had easily to hand by the look of things. Sometimes they have the split parcel shelf from the '82 model as well as other oddities you've already noticed. It's the same with 1978 mk1s.

PS I like the Grandad theme. Where's the Thermos?

Thanks man ;-)

Finally found a boss. Wooden wheel fitted along with NES controler keyring.

Have an electric aerial fitted too, adding to the 80s-ness.

Apologies, but once again its been a while! Things have been happening!

Took the car to retro rides, and got papped by a fellow scirocco owner...

The car had up to this point been performing faultlessly. So much so that I tried the G60s on her...

Image

Really like that look.

Have also got most of the parts ready for the bodywork marathon next year.

Then she developed a miss fire. Hardly the end of the world and on closer inspection found that pretty much all the contacts on the dizzy had worn out...

Image

So service parts bought.

Image

First problem being Euro had sent the wrong HT leads (which they have done before on my VR6) followed by most of the coil had broken off not allowing me to fit the king lead back safely...

Image

New coil and correct HT leads fitted and she purrs and fires beautifully.

Then the poxy fuel line got clogged making the car constantly stall and kangaroo everywhere. An hour or two later with some copper pipe, got both lines replaced and a well behaved car again.

With all this done, treated the old girl to an eBay find, after a lick of paint...

Image

If your car doesn't have one, you need one. Forgot how great they are!

Since then, the expansion tank developed a leak which has been sorted with the help of a spare. Sods law it would leak after the coolant change I did!

I then bought the cheapest leather cleaner I could find, and it turns out to be amazing!

Genuinely blown away with the results! Will finish the drivers door card tomorrow.

Alex, just my sort of thing.
The oddly coloured GL/GTL's always a nice contrast to the later uniform black/grey/Gt11 interiors.
Like the bigger wheels, fill the shoulder pads arches better, the cross spokes on project £66 worth a try too?
Some zender turbos would be perfect!

Enjoy your winter fettling!
