Sally has failed her M.O.T on this so we need this part.Part Number is 532419951B which is a £117.74 from here https://www.vwheritage.com/vw.cfm?act=v ... GB&lang=EN we wondered if there is a cheaper option for this part new.

Steering UJ Joint.
G Beats.Been into MK 2 V.W Sciroccos since 98.Now on my fourth MK 2 Scirocco. R.I.P two MK 2 Scala DX Engine's.Sold GT 2. No longer have a mk 2 v.w Scirocco as it was stolen back in February 2020 .Or another one know have a 1980s BMW.

Couple of second hand ones on eBay but still a lot of money for a metal bar with 2 joints on the ends...

Are they sure it's the UJ that is worn not the plastic bush at the end of the steering colum as that can cause play in the end of the steering colum? Grab hold of the UJ joint at the bottom of the steering colum and give it a wobble, look for play on the shaft going into the steering colum.

Sorry to hear it Gav it's a real bummer.
I'm not one of the petrolhead techies but i would imagine they're fairly common on older VW's?
I got one attached to a steering column for very little money and had to have it fitted about 8 years ago and it's still fine.

Thanks very much your help all.Just sorted out about this problem and spoke to our mechanic.He said it was the Ball joint and the M.O.T place were leading them up the Garden path a bit.So all passed and sorted now.
