replacement speedo cluster

My odometer does not work, so looking to replace it.
My scirocco is mk2 1.8 carb.
I assume a mk 2 golf would fit ok, but would a gti one be ok, do I need to make sure its a 8valve rather than 16valve.
Mine has the digital clock in the middle, not the computer thing, that aside would the rest work ok?

other than ebay any ideas of where I might get one.

Oddly for those not bored already, when I removed the cluster to have a fiddle, with an allen key (where the speedo cable would go) I spun the speedo to read and odometer started to move.
so had it somehow fixed itself I thought, but sadly it worked for about 1 mile back in the car, and thats it...very odd.(ometer)

There is a good guide on fixing the odometers somewhere. If everything else is working (I.e. The speedo) then this may be a better option if you have the time. It's a common fault.

yes ive seen that thanks, so I was expecting to see something missing or broken or loose, but when it started to work on the bench, it took the wind out of my sails and decided to put it back and hope..

It's usally just the plastic cog is spinning on the metal shaft, it's meant to turn the shaft, I fixed mine with a little drop of superglue on the cog.
What happens when you reset the trip, does the miles then start to count again?

yes I had another go, and annoyingly it fixes itself when on the bench, which makes it impossible to see that's actually not working, I thought the red cog maybe 'had been' slipping on the metal shaft, so dobbed a bit of glue on and hoped.
it worked but only for couple of miles in the car, also really difficult to disconnect plastic wiring clips, and speedo etc does not sit properly, the plastic electrical clips seem to force if back deeper in the dash, weird.
resetting the trip does not make any odds, to mileometer.

Do I need a 8valve one off a golf or will 16v be ok too?

when i did mine i took the red cog off and crushed the metal bar in some vice grips then pushed the gear back on.
alternatively bring it on down to cosford as I'm sure theres plenty of people who would swap clocks with you or fix yours for you

fingers crossed ive fixed it.
thanks for advice, the red cog was on the metal shaft solid, but the far end of the rod wasn't in/located far enough, and the metal cog on far end wasn't connecting with the rest of the gearing, I think...
real fiddle getting the rod out, in, out and in, but its in and worked for a few journeys now.
