If the drain tubes aren't connected or are blocked, yes, the sunroof can be the source.

One goes to each corner of the car.

Alright cool, I'll get that off tomorrow - I've been tidying the engine up with black enamel.

You can see the inside of the car, the areas at the back where the upholstery has perished.. damp foam :/

I take it this is an after-market sunroof?

No, that's the standard VW tilt/slide sunroof. All the aftermarket ones I've seen are glass.

Keep it simple all the earlier suggestions are much more likeli also a lot cheaape and easier to sort?

Lts of owners have had these problems that DON'T have sunroofs so don't go there first.

With your sun roof some one has just fitted the wrong handle.
There is a guide on here to adjusting the sun roof.

No, that's the normal handle for the VW factory sunroof.

Not seen one like that before, the one fitted to the Mk2 Storm is like this one?

The one in the Mk2 Golf I had was also like the one above just with out the button as it did not tilt up.

Just had a look at a spare from a GTX I have lying around, and it's a Golde one as in Chris's picture. My current GTX has Golde as well.

My mk2 Golf's sunroof handle is like the one you've linked to above. I reckon your Storm has had a Golf part fitted at some point in its life.

My leak was at the grommet for the rear screen heater wire and at the bottom corner of the hatch seal! A bit of refitting and sealant sorted that.
Also get some net curtain wire or similar and clear the sunroof drain seals. The rear drains a little can be difficult to access so try to do them form below first. they come out at the very rear of the wings underneath.
The roof handle is an irrelevance, I have a golf one on mine and its fine.

Apparently the dreadful paint on my Rocco is PATINA....
