Post by mjmaster10 »

Hi Guys

Do anyone know whether this is possible, and what the cost might be? Is it feasible?

Thanks

Mark

I think GTXTRA had air con in his Scirocco which he removed?

To find an original set up is going to be tricky as not many UK cars was fitted with it, you would need to search the USA or possibly Germany?

Yeah, Sean had it.

Hated it, got it taken out.

Have a look at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtgQLr ... sZzYrJE_DQ

The guy is a bit boring but building an impressive spec Mk1 with an electric A/C system.

Not sure which videos it is in but his titles give a pretty good indication as to what is going on. There's a few that cover the A/C system.

I've watched all of Dereks videos...Very impressive. But he's using an electric AC pump, not belt driven, and they don't really put out enough energy to be worth it in my opinion...Plus it's controlled by his ECU.

Fairly sure most of the US and German 16v had air con, if you search for a breaking car in germany or in craigslist in the US you could grab the parts.

There is a 1.6 engine for sale on CL at the moment in CA with all the AC bits on, Probably wouldn't include a condenser though or the interior controls/ wiring. But fairly simple to set up if you have the pump, bracket, lines etc.

cannibalise a system off a mk3 golf then mod the scirocco to suit.
most of the gubbins should bolt up to the existing block

Ripped the aircon off my mk2 and held onto all the bits. Broke most of the pipe work but sure new bits could be made up using what remains as a guide. May be better off using mk3 bits as suggested above but it's all taking up space in the dads shed so welcome to it if you want it.
