Same colour code for wheels?

Post by Jiffy »

Hi everyone,
Does anybody know for sure on whether the original silver paint on the alloy wheels of a '84 MK2 GL would've been the same colour code as the rest of the car (which is silver)? I'm looking to refurb the wheels, and want to try and keep as original as possible.
Thanks

There is a specific colour code for the wheels... but I'm afraid I don't know what it is.

Thanks for the replies!
Quick update, I've found out that the colour of the main body is Diamond Silver Metallic. So does anybody know if cars spec'd in this colour would have had matching colour wheels?

No, they would have just been the standard VW alloy wheel silver colour - which has its own code.

Colour-coding for alloys only applied to the 14" Avus alloys as fitted to Scalas (and some early GTXs). In these cases certain body colours (like silver/grey) would have had black coloured inserts with the rest polished. I think for the UK only Alpine White, Helios Blue and Paprika Red Scalas had body-colour matched wheels.

I've been told that pretty much all German alloy wheels are all painted in the same silver metallic. I've had all manner of VW alloy wheels refurbished, and the shop always uses the same paint and they come out looking great and matching the original factory look. Wurth offers this or if you are using a specialist, they should be familiar with the color.
