Wet carpet
Hi folks, i stripped out my front carpet a few weeks ago to dry it out due to a leak somewhere near the drivers side footwell. The small wool underlay section attached to the footwell was sodden and promptly binned and yesterday I managed to trace the water coming in through the hole in the footwell that i have circled in red. It looks as if it might be running down from the top of the footwell on the inside facing the wing if you know what i mean. Ive tried running a hose for ages over the roof and doors and windscreen etc but unable to see any water running in from under the dash etc but usually in the morning i notice the drip down at the footwell so its very slow. Only hunch i have is there is a slight staining on the inside of the windscreen rubber at the bottom right corner just above the dash at the drivers side. Just wondering if its worthwile getting the window popped out and resealed?

Re: Wet carpet
Do you have a sunroof? If you do, make sure the front drainage tube in that corner is connected and not blocked.
If you don't, a lot of leaks at the front are from perished/missing/badly-seated washers in the bulkhead - take a close look at all of these.
The windscreen would be my final resort as it's going to be the biggest/most expensive job.

Yes Ed it has an aftermarket sunroof that tilts only. Do you know if it is simple to remove? Ill have a go tomorrow after i tackle my rear brakes overhaul.
Was thinking of removing the dash for a better look but using my car as a daily this week so ill go down the sunroof route 1st

Re: Wet carpet
That kind of sunroof won't have drainage channels - if it leaks it'll come in round the seal and you'd know about it. Factory roofs aren't sealed and have drainage channels.
I think you're back to grommets or the screen.

Re: Wet carpet
Looks like i found the culprit
, nipped outside with the torch and had a look around the windscreen rubber which on the outside looks perfect but when you lift it up and have a poke around it looks as if the 2nd lip underneath is starting to disintegrate just above the drivers side bottom corner. Any recommendations of a good temporary sealer? im aware that silicone isnt too kind to paintwork.
Will eventually source and have a new rubber fitted in the coming months but got some pre m.o.t work to keep me busy the next couple of weeks

Re: Wet carpet
You can buy windscreen sealer which you can use even if it's wet so you can run a beead under the seal and not have to wait for a few dry days to use it. Put some masking tape along the paint work as its a right pain to get it off the paint.
I found it in a local motor factors on the shelf.

Re: Wet carpet
I used the stuff to seal my rear window on my Mk1 Golf cabriolet when I fitted a new roof and the roof is white vinyl so I did not want any getting on my nice new roof.
