1989 scirocco interior fabric

Post by browns »

Hi, I'm new to this so be gentle with me please,
Im a trimmer(Browns Trimming) from down south,Broadstairs Kent to be exact.
A customer has just dropped in with a 1989 Scirocco with a red interior, im assuming its a special edition as i can't find it listed anywhere, the seats need retriming but she wants to keep it original, I've tried all my usual fabric suppliers but to no avail.
This is where i hope you guys can help, the material is red with black spots on the bolsters, and red with black lines both horizontal and vertical making squares on the centres, with black vinyl backs, the vinyl is not a problem its the red fabrics I'm struggling with any help or advise would be greatly appreciated as the couple are really nice people and i would love to source this for them.
in advance cheers and a happy new year
Loz

Hi - it's the 'early' Scala specific pattern you're looking at.
See here - http://website.lineone.net/~dr.dub/scala.htm

Or here - http://www.driversfound.com/scirocco/history/uk/1989/

To be honest unless you track down a car for breaking or one of the hoarders pop up it's going to be very tricky to track any down.

Golf GTI Cabriolets of the same era had a similar colour coded material but again they'd be very few in number after all this time.

User Redrum on here has a very similar car - he may have a lead based on his previous maintenance.

Good luck!

Hi Loz, I have this interior. I can confirm you cannot buy it any longer. I eventually tracked down a set of seats up north and picked them up to have my seats fixed. Sold one seat to a guy on here last year who was having the same problem.

Best thing to do is keep checking eBay!

On a side note, I still haven't had mine retrimmed yet. Need the bolster and the seat base. Give me a shout on here, perhaps we can work something out as there would be material left over from my donor seat.

You can buy it in Germany and get it shipped.

Just spotted they only sell the red with the squares, might be worth sending a email to see if they can get the other stuff as they have both types in white.

Glad to be of help. :good:
Would be useful to know how you get on and prices for such a service as there is a few Scirocco and Mk1 Golfs out there with though sort of seats in need of care and attention.
I am one of them....
