Speedo bulb/holder assembly where to get?!

Post by MattRocco »

Hi guys got a mk2 with vdo speedo in. Bulb blew the other day. Removed the clocks and took the culprit out, at the time I thought the bulb was removable but I broke it and soon realised it was a holder/bulb 1 piece assembly.

Now I took it up to euro car parts and they couldn't match it but said halfrauds had the one I want, went there and in the packs yes they look identical so bought a pair. As soon as I opened the pack nope there wrong, the VW ones get there electrical feed from the outside of the board where as the halfrauds/gsf and the likes bulbs don't fit right to start with but also there metal prongs that make the contact with the film bit are on the inside of the clocks when fitted so don't work.

Any ideas as I've checked eBay etc but they look the exact same as the halfrauds ones so I'm sceptical to wasting more money.

VW likely to be my only option?

Regards
Matt

Any decent motor factors should have them as I two new ones last week, I took the bulb in to match it, I did up mine to 2w so it is a little bit brighter.
Ebay you can get a some.

Don't know why there is 4 as I've only got 3, 1 above speedo 1 above rev counter and 1 behind the MFA?

Thank you for the help guys, euro car parts + gsf were highly useless and halfords had the ones that look almost identical but not the same :(

Will go VW tomorrow if not I'll do the eBay ones.

Appreciate the help!!

I couldn't get hold of these bulbs either which was why I used cold cathode tubes instead wired to the cigarette lighter light feed.
