Glovebox light

Post by christhemann »

Managed to get one of these to fit in my Scala!

Apparently they were only fitted to Storm and GTX Models, has anyone got a photo of where in the glovebox it should be placed?
I suppose I need to cut a hole to fit it.

Cheers.
Chris

So, i've got myself one now and had a go at locating the wiring tonight...

Not easy back there behind the glovebox. :dash:

According to the wiring diagram, the wire to use is black/yellow from the fan/blower switch (and a brown earth, which should be easy enough to add).
Found the black/yellow wire but it's bloody stuck somewhere and I can't pull it out.

Any ideas where it goes? If it's easier to get to the wiring behind the fan controls, would removing the centre vents help? Or does that just
give access to the blower motor?

Starting to think a glovebox light is pretty pointless...

Take the glovebox out, it isn't that difficult and it will give you acres of space to play around in.
It is just a few screws, but take off the underdash shelves as well in the passenger footwell, just makes life a tad easier.

Finally got round to doing this!
Hardest bit was probably hacking the hole in the glovebox, they're pretty tough.

The wiring was already in place, as the wire to use is Black/Yellow and comes from the plug on the back of the fan/blower switch, also paired with the
red wire (giving power to the blower switch) This is according to the wiring diagrams.
I tried tracing the end of this wire as it went all the way to the other side of the car (towards driver side).
Got as far as I could, and then cut it, anyones guess as to where the hell is goes ?! Maybe its terminated somewhere stupid.

Crimped a terminal on it, wired it to the light and then put a wire from (-) to ground plugs
on the right of the fuse box (there was a spare spade connector).

So it works well! But then the bulb seems to have blown. ARR.
Can't find a bulb for it anywhere, its a non standard Festoon 3 Watt type (not the same as the one in the boot thats 5w, or the interior light as its 10w!)

Oh well, all good.

I had trouble finding a bulb, mind you I always seem to forget I still need one, so if you do track one down let me know!
The glovebox light should only work when the ignition and the lights are on.

I was in Halfords today, and picked up a bulb that fits the light. It is 10watt but better than no light! Halfords number is 269.

I stand corrected, the light will work without the lights on but the ignition must be on.

Ah interesting to know thanks!

Finally found the right number, but Halfords don't sell it.
Its 257 Festoon. Found some at www.consumabulbs.com.

Suppose with your bulb at least its brighter! Probably lights up the whole car.

That yellow/black wire also comes in handy for making my radio switch on and off with the ignition.
Just what i was looking for.

£3.95 for a bulb :!: :!: :!:

My 10w is okay, and to be honest it only gets used by me, and I would not be driving and rooting around in the glovebox at the same time.
