mk2 sunroof seal

Just got a new sunroof seal in the post, but it looks tiny compared to the one that's on it. I thought I'd been sent the wrong item, but it seems to be the same one across the board. I wonder if it's for the tilt and slide? Mine just flips up...Even the haynes only shows the tilt and slide

Turn the handle the other way and your sunroof should slide back unless some things wrong/broken with it if so watch your paint if it does slide back incase it scraps all along the sinroof.
Mk2 golfs was fitted with sunroofs which only slide open and Mk2 Sciroccos fitted with roof which slide and tilt.

Mine just flips up, just a little handle and it pops up about 30 degrees and locks.

You do have a VW fitted standard metal sun roof with a handle like this near the rear view mirror?

This may help with fitting the seal as I think you have to slide the roof back so you can remove it?

Just searched your posts and if it's the one on your red car in your post on this page then it's an aftermarket sun roof.

Yes, all mk2 Scirocco factory sunroofs were tilt/slide metal panels. Glass, tilt-only are either dealer-fit or aftermarket. As such, it's a matter of removing your seal to look at the profile/dimensions and try to find a match from somewhere like http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk.

Often the original seal will improve its sealing abilities immeasurably with a thorough clean of all surfaces.

The reason I need a new seal is the previous owner had sealed it shut.

I never knew these were an aftermarket piece.

Yeah the one in my red mk2 is the same pretty much as this one...as you can see, the previous owner has done everything but fix it.

Bought another sunroof today as I found the latch was broken...probably the reason the last owner sealed it up

With these dealer fitted sunroofs, does anyone know the best way to get them sorted? Sunroof specialist. Managed to replace the glass and clamp with another one from a breaking car but the seal isn't keeping the water out. Would rather not have it taped up over the winter

The seal will most likely be a generic one so any sunroof specialist should be able to help - google implies there are still a fair few around.

you could try to "fill' it up.

I guess it has become a bit flat ?, I fixed this once by making a little slit in the seal and shoving a washer jet hose into it all the way around.

It is quite a job to do but if you use some lubricant like dish wacher fluid you can shove it all the way round.

The the old seal bulges up again and will seal up the roof as it used to, in the meantime you can keep on searching for a new one.

That's a great Idea! Will try that this weekend, only have some vacuum hose, but its fairly soft so it might do the trick...Really don't want to give in and silicone it!

Vacuum hose will be to thick and will not slide as good being rubber.

Just go and get some window washer hose, is also a bit stiffer which will push through easier, believe me.

This isn't a tilt and slide sunroof. I actually bought a seal for one of those (£70) thinking it might fit. I think the vacuum hose will work as its soft like the current seal. it'll need to give quite a bit for the sunroof to close
