Lower driver seat Scirocco MK2

Post by teenspirit7 »

For years I have wanted a scirocco, and have done copious research on them.

Today I went to look at my first Scirocco and everything was perfect, until I sat in the drivers seat. I am just 6ft but have a rather long body. It was very cramped for my head. Just wondering if there is anything you can do about this? This was the last thing I expected to stop me from buying one.

TL;DR: Can I lower the drivers seat, it was uncomfortable?

Thanks for reading!

I think they all have height adjustment on the driver's seat, certainly all the ones with sports seats do (GTI, Storm, GTS, GTX, Scala, GTII). There is a handle on the side of the seat base.

At 6 ft you shouldn't really have a problem fitting in.

The other thing to consider is cars with a factory sunroof have less headroom, although plenty of our 6ft+ members manage fine in these cars.

Sometimes people replace the seats with Golf ones, which are higher, so if headroom is really tight that could be the issue.

Thanks for the reply. Only the back of the seat lowered, which meant I had to tilt the back forward leaving me somewhat sandwhiched. Is there any way to lower the front?

They are definitely the original seats, and yes it did have a factory sunroof.

I have a GT with factory fitted sunroof and I am just over 6ft, the headroom for mine is tight and I can feel my hair on the roof, luckily in the summer I can open the sunroof and let my hair out haha. To be honest though I wouldn't let the headroom put you off, I was a little bit concerned but I haven't thought about it again, such fun to drive and a great car overall. Did you push the seat as far back as possible and slide down once you were in? That's what I have to do

Thanks guys, didn't have a lot of time to find the right seat position, so I'm sure I can make it work.

Just put an offer in! Very excited.

Good choice putting an offer in! I'm 6'1" and headroom is no issue while driving. Presumably you'll drive with the seat all the way back, meaning the seat behind you will have little to no leg room, but hey, that's their problem.

If you look at this picture, you can see the height adjusters on bother front seats, towards the rear of the base, next to the handbrake.

The seat essentially hinges at the front, so the bit where your bum is goes up or down. I'm just shy of 5'11" and always have the seat on its lowest setting (I don't need to for head-room) because I like to sit low in the car. I have the backrest fairly upright to get the steering wheel comfortably in reach, which is how it should be, really.
