Hi am hoping someone can help me out with some advise and info.
I've got a 1989 Scala injection DX engine was wondering if anyone knows what amp my alternater would be as you can't read the label on it?
Also does anyone recommend any particular battery? Bearing in mind il be running 3000w of amps in the boot.
Any help would be much appreciated
Jack

Re: Alternator and battery
3000W @ 12V = 250A!
Presumably the 3kW is peak output?

Re: Alternator and battery
Yes, I would think 3Kw would be the peak output rather than continuous.
A 90amp alternator and decent sized Bosch or Varta battery will be more than enough.
Also a decent brand 1 farad capacitor wired inline with your amps will help the battery life and also stop lights dimming on big bass notes.

Yes that's peak. Would I already have the 90amp alternater fitted and do I need to upgrade the earth strap?

Not sure if there is an easy way to tell if you can't read the markings. Mine still said 90A on it.
I wouldn't think you'd need to upgrade the earth. I used to use 2x1000w subs, 4x120W 6x4's, 2x100W 2" tweeters and 2x500W 6x9's. Never changed the earth cable and never had any problems. Never used to have it turned up that loud though, more set up for quality with each speaker only doing its optimal range of sound.

Re: Alternator and battery
I guess a 89 car would of had a 55 amp alternator as standard as that's what's fitted to my 88 golf with the same DX engine, it was just later cars which had a bigger alternator as VW put more electrical things on the car as standard, well thats how it is with the mk1 Golf cabriolet as they had electric roofs and windows.

Re: Alternator and battery
Was hoping mine has the 90amp, it was a red sticker on the alternater if that helps? but as it hasn't got lecy Windows or lecy sunroof I'm guessing it's a fair shout at being the 55amp
