Help me decide what to do
Really don't know what to do about my Scirocco ? It's been sitting on my driveway, looking neglected and unloved since Feb 2012,took it off the road, not because it was broken, but at the time I just couldn't justify,taxing and insuring 2 vehicles,as fundamentally, it's just a toy,although I did manage to get my carpet cleaning machine and stuff in,by removing the passenger seat, when the van had an issue.
I spent a couple of years,collecting all the bit's for a 2ltr 16valve conversion and now have pretty much everything required,to build it and install it,apart from a clutch and a full gasket set.and a couple of other minor bit's.
Thing is when I get behind the wheel,something comes over me and I drive it like I stole it,always pushing it to find the limit,I did find the limit one afternoon, trying to get round a 90 deg bend at about 60, ended up on 3 wheels on the wrong side of the road, that slowed me down for a bit, the next one was going way way too fast and then spotting a horse, pretty much locked up , but stopped in plenty of time, to just get a disapproving look,the idea was to take it to track days, hence the Safety devices roll cage, Koni adjustable suspension,upper and lower strut braces,alloy fuel cell,wibbly cam, played with head, adjustable vernier.,quick shift,ect will do 0 to 60 in under 7 and will do nearly double the legal speed limit.I just don't know what to do, know I would regret selling it, but also have to consider I have used a fair few of my 9 lives up.Someone come give me a kick up the arse,I have owned it for nearly 12 years now and it's been a labour of love,we have had falling outs, but it's had the strongest engine of all the cars I have owned, I tried my hardest to make it go bang, once a mate said he had got me the 9A block, but it just wouldn't die,so I have respect for it I guess,as I blew most of the other cars I owned up.It's more go than show, Rat look,not into spending hours polishing.
On the other hand I would only end up buying something quicker and then chuck a load more money at it.But I don't really like modern cars, I'm a bloody nightmare lol

Worth thinking about track days and getting some track driving tuition to really get the best out of both that car and yourself? Most of the track days I've been on have instructors there you can book time with, either when you sign up or on the day. Trailer the car there and back to save on making the scirocco road legal, although this may depend a bit on the size of your van and it's towing limits. Also depending on your age, you may need to take a trailer test.
I appreciate the up front costs of trailer and test are not cheap, plus needing somewhere to store it, just thinking of a way to keep and use the car that you put a lot of work into.

i agree with tim, you really should track day the car if its as good as you say, but personally i like road going track cars because then i don't have to mess about with trailers that i cant drive one on my licence anyway.
but that said you wont have to tax n test a track day car if you can trailer it!
if you set up your car for optimum track day performance you probably wouldnt want to drive it on the road as it would then be impractical

Well I have a vaux Vivaro for work and I'm 45 now,an old git,but it's definitely worth considering.Could get one of those A frame things for towing I guess.
I got involved in other projects and put a little 5k rig together to put on free parties,so that sort of took all my spare money,but that is ll set up now,so could get back on sorting this out.

sorry dude, rules of the road dictate a car without an mot, tax and insurance cannot even touch the road.
hence why you will need a trailer or recovery truck.
i found this out when towing the crusty rusty rocket home.
I dont mind project cars but I HATE SANDING!!!

Mr D, your car so matches your house. I love it. James is correct, MOT, car does not touch the Tarmac. Great mods, but if it were my car I would fit 256 discs on front, brake upgrade all round including discs at rear and late mk 2 Golf GTI brake servo. Awesome power requires awesome brakes and stopping distance. With your Konis and a brake upgrade you will have an awesome track car. My fav would be an 8 v for the track. 16v is great for the Quarter mile straight run as it likes the higher revs, an 8v with a Webber has a better all round throttle response and is great for the track.

I have golf G60 disks,carriers and callipers to fit, the insurance company said they won't insure me without fitting them and it was pretty hard finding someone to insure it,with all mods declared and in my 40's, had to do the 3 thou miles a year thing and got it for £256 a year.
And wish that was my house, on a very posh road on the outskirts of Camb,one of my customers.
The reason I went for the 9A ,was because I was pretty much at the limit of what I could do with the Dx,without spending silly money.
Might put it in for it's mot and see how it fairs,like I said, I only took it off the road,due to being self employed and work being crap,but thankfully work has picked up since,so there wasn't anything wrong with it as such,not been run for a couple of years.

Having met you and also seen you flying past me on the A14 a few times when you had it on the road, i think you should keep it!
I'm not far away if you need help too

Killed it eventually by also draining the oil.....

one of my previous mechanics tried this with a battered old mk2 (ready for the scrap man)you could always put a brick under the accelerator pedal!
Left brick on accelerator, came back 30 mins later and it was still running....!

Same situ.
Toying with selling. But tbh I've tucked it away and not driven it properly for around 2 / 3 years. Just to mot bay and back.
As I don't see it every day it doesn't dwell me on to taxing and using. Moral of the story shoe horn it out of sight just wash it and start it up till your ready..
