'77 Scirocco LS

Post by hongkongeuie »

I'd been after an early MK1 Scirocco for ages and then I came across this for sale in Holland and I was set on buying it! Flew over on 2 weeks ago to pick it up and drove it to the port in Rotterdam then had it trailored up to a mate's unit on.

It's a 79000km, 2 owners from new car. According to the previous owner it was in a museum/private collection when it belonged to the original owner in Germany. It has had some paint work in the past but not a complete respray. Interior is as new in it's original Tobacco trim and only has a few trim pieces missing or broken but nothing too hard to find.

First jobs are to get it UK registered, which I'm part way through, swap the auto box for a manual and paint the front valence and sills at work, as they've been stone chipped and not painted over so don't look great. Long term plans include cleaned bay with all hide-able things hidden and do something with the engine. Find a different set of wheels, I have some in mind but I'll see what turns up.

Anyway, some pictures:

So, haven't updated this in a while! Done plenty to it, nothing major really other than UK registering it.
Sent off for a V5 10 days before Ultimate Dubs after finding out I had an outdoor space. I'd given up hope after the Wednesday before UD but amazingly all the UK documents turned up the next day, so that left me a day to get it at least slightly presentable haha. Had a marathon cleaning and machine polishing session on the Friday and left Saturday morning for Telford, a mere 300 miles for the Scirocco's first decent drive since who knows when. Luckily all went well other than the cooling fan giving up before we even left Edinburgh, 10 minutes later a temporary loom was made up and we were off again.
Nothing much has happened since other than having to use it as a daily until I fix my Caddy :stop:

Replaced the crappy Chinese handle inserts for some proper woodgrain effect VW ones from Winston :beers:

Looks squint but it's not

Awesome.

PLEASE do head down to Cosford for the National - see the links around the forum - it would be great to see this in the metal.

Cheers for the nice words! I'll try and get down to the national meet!

Not done as much to this as I'd hoped recently, only managed to give it a quick service. It's still on daily duties so it's hard to do any bigger jobs! Hoping to have the Caddy sorted soon though so should be able to get some stuff done to this.
