Weber carb splitting

Post by SciroccoSam »

So I've had a horrible situation occur earlier today, tightening my carbs up and the carb literally splits right beneath the bolt I was tightening creating a big vaccume leak, the bolt was still almost lose enough to tighten up by hand so I have no idea what has happened. Has this ever happened to anyone before and is there a quick way to repair the problem, was preparing my car for a show on Sunday so any help would be much appreciated I'm almost freaking out :'(

im assuming the carb you refer to is either the pierburg or a 32/34 weber?

this sounds pretty terminal im afraid, how tight did you do the bolt up?
because the bottom half is all cast you will need a doner carb to get that part from.
personally i would buy a new carb and use your old one for spares or sell for spares to pay for new one.
do you have any pictures?
it would be easier to see just how bad your carb is.

Hopefully that link works, it's a weber 45 and the bolt wasn't even right at all was basically hand tight

sorry dude it still seems terminal to me, someone else on here may be more knowledgeable or know where to get spare parts from but i think you are going to need a new carb.
if you keep an eye out on ebay you could pick up any weber 45 and just put all the internals from your carb into the new one. hopefully you can find a cheap one.

hey sciroccosam looking at your picture again does that stud the nut is on contact the carb housing as you tighten it up?
that may be why it cracked in the first place.
