I need help from someone who has has a gear box out and a linkage off please am I struggling to get my linkage right! And when I can get it to get some gears I'm usually missing first and second or reverse.
I'm at my wits end now is there any hints or tips to doing this please, the gearbox that's in these has come off a mk2 golf but I don't think that will matter I hope

Re: Can't get gears right
There used to be some great advice on here on how to set your linkages up.
prob worth a search on linkage?
can't see why it wouldn't still be there

Re: Can't get gears right
Have you checked the gap under the gear stick, in the rubber boot under the car?

Re: Can't get gears right
the linkages between mk2 golf and scirocco are different.
i put a mk4 golf gearbox in mine and had to change ALL of the linkages because they were wrong lengths and shape.
i never actually tried to use the golf linkages but if you have i really wouldn't be surprised if it was causing your issues.
my gear stick fell off once where the spilned shaft joins a lever behind the gearbox. it took many attempts to get it back in the correct position as each spline movement only moves by one degree so a lot of guess work was involved getting it back on and in the right place.
you really need 2 people.
one inside the car to test gears while the other is underneath and can quickly adjust the position if its wrong.

Re: Can't get gears right
The box is the same though, so as long as you are using the original scirocco linkage that is fine.
Put the box in neutral.
Loosen the splined fitting under the car.
Measure "I think" about 15mm between the bottom of the gearstick and the reverse lock plate, under the car inside the rubber boot thing. A 12/13mm socket in the gap is about right.
Tighten everything. Try.
From there it shouldn't take much adjustment to get it right if it doesn't work first time.
Ben.
