when turning the steering wheel there is a knock from just behind the steering wheel.
it became less when i tightened up the 1 allen bolt you can access though the plastic surround.
any ideas what this may be? or how to fix it?
i did notice the whole end of the steering judders (steering wheel end) but the linkage that goes through the bulk head stays still.

Sounds like it is the top steering column bearing to check them is to get hold of the steering wheel on the bottom and the top and try to wiggle it backwards and forwards, then up and down. If you get any movement then it will be that bearing, I have a knocking noise like that when that bearing was worn really badly.
