LCD Clock Problem (Steering Wheel Removal Sorted)

Not sure if this should be in here or the running gear section, sorry if I picked the wrong one.

I'm trying to take my steering wheel off to change my ignition switch and get the cluster out to swap the LCD while I'm there. I can't seem to get the black wire out from where it connects under the horn push. Do the 3 little black tabs need to be brought into the middle, pushed to the edge or something else? I've got the Haynes and Bentley manuals but they don't go into specifics.

It sounds like your horn push has split apart. If the part you have removed is just the rubbery bit then this is the case. You'll need to carefully lever off the rest as one and you'll only have one wire to detach.
A picture may help showing us what you have taken off.

I think the black wire comes off the horn push end not on the wheel.

Ah ok, I'll have another go at that when it's light again then.

On another note, I managed to get the cluster out with the wheel still on, changed the bulbs fine and all good.

I swapped the LCD from a working cluster I bought but am only getting 1111 on the display as below. Anyone got any ideas?

If so, just undo the nut in the middle and take of the steering wheel.

These wires stay attached to the steering wheel.

Where else do you think the wires go?, how else can you turn your steering wheel?.

Both wires are going through the steering wheel onto the slip ring underneath.

Yea it's the original. I was just following the manuals, they both say disconnect the horn push

Believe me, just undo the center nut, not all the way, give it a firm pull and when it loosens take the nut off al the way and remove the wheel.

Thanks Joost, I've replaced my ignition switch now and put the column all back together

If anyone can help with the the LCD not reading correctly that'd be great before I put the clocks back in
