Need a big favour-CAMBER moved here to help others find info

Post by james butler »

I need a measurement from someone if possible for me to set the camber on my car.
What I need is someone to put a straight edge against the wing of there car and the bottom of the wheel and measure the gap between straight edge and top of the wheel, I can then set my camber the same.
I'm only after a basic setup atm because it's goin to the garage soon to be set up properly but I need the car back on its wheels to get it out of the way.
Cheers
James

Hi James,

This idea is not going to work at all I am afraid.

1. What size wheels are you running, diameter, hight, offset ?, what size the person who mesures?

2. Does de car have a spoilerset mounted, doe the person who mesures have this set?

3. What hight does the car have?, has it a loweringset or coilovers?.

Just mount the shocks with the suplied bolts, align the wheels in a position that looks good and tighten the bolts.

If it is just for transport and not for driving it is not of that big importance how the alignment is.

You can line up the wheel bearing housing (where the two bolts go through) with the shock body and that will get you close to zero camber. I've done this is as a temporary solution many times and I've nearly always been spot on zero.

No quite level (I was holding coilover + wbh in one hand) but you get the idea

Jack up the front of the car, just enough to get both wheels off the found will do. Ideally with a jack one side and axle stand the other.
Put your wheels under the car since for the rest it won't be fully supported on 2 stands.
Put a spirit level across the top of the front bumper and use the jack to level the car horizontally.
Then use the same spirit level vertically against the hub to set it as close to 0° as you can.
Won't be perfect but will do to get you going.

Ben.

After tightening up you can do a check with an iPhone (not the plastic sided one) if you have one. Open the iphone compass utility and swipe left which gives an angle measuring app. Place the edge of the iphone (no buttons side) against the wheel hub centre and it will read the camber angle, do the same on the other wheel to see how far out they are. Make sure you use the same side of the phone for placing against the hub centre on the second wheel. I set mine at +1 deg in at the top each side.

that looks like a good idea, i wonder how those tracker plates work as it says to just drive over it to test the tracking.

I hear nothing but good reports of the guns on track rite. Think I'd rather get a set of Dunlop gauges myself though.

The jacking it up to set camber thing won't work if there isn't any weight on the front wheels, or if the car isn't on level ground.

I favour the trakrite cus it's good on lowered cars. Just push the car with the wheels kept straight.
