MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
Hello all,
This evening some (excuse my perfect French) C*** decided to smash into my driver door which will probably need replacing as I can't shut it properly or even lock it. (luckily I have a cover for the car). They left no note. nothing in fact apart from a very angry/sad owner, so I now have the task to pay for it all. Just wanted to express what a wonderful decent society Britain has today. Hopefully that wasn't too sarcastic. The car is in Paprika Red so I presume I would just need to buy a door and possibly get it resprayed. Does anyone know where I can get one from?
Thanks a lot guys

Sorry to hear about this, pop up a picture of the damage and any damage to the B piller etc and we might have a better idea of what can be done.

Thanks
I will try and do it tomorrow. Do I need to put the picture on one of those websites like postimage etc?

Yep you do need to up load it to another site and then copy the IMG code, then paste it into your post.
Not heard of post image but if it's the same as photobucket then you will be fine, just click the preview button to check it's worked .
I've missed the bit of this where the dots are but you get the idea of what to copy and paste in.

Re: MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
Thanks for your help on this Mark. That is for the passenger side. I need the Driver's side. I took it to a place where they respray and repair this sort of damage and they said definately a new door because of how dented it is. So I am looking for a door. VW Heritage website is £900 for the door and door skin is £176 and isn't in stock for another 2 weeks. Outrageous prices. Will keep looking. Thanks again though buddy for your help.
I have been at work all day so haven't been able to post a picture. Will do tomorrow!!

Re: MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
In the link above he just mentions the passengers door is dented so he still might have the drivers door? Might be worth asking....

Re: MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
Surely all MkII drivers doors are the same so why limit it by model?

Thanks yeah I see... sorry my head is all over the place at the moment. I only have the one car and not being able to drive her properly and having her looking perfect as normal is really annoying me!!! Re: MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
I have been given a quote to do my door and I now have another door (cheers Monzajake). The guy said obviously the new paint job on the door will look brighter than the rest of the car. He said he can blend the panels next to the door but I was thinking my car is red so obviously it has faded slightly but in my opinion the paintwork on my car and for the age of her the paint is in excellent condition. So I was just asking for peoples opinions on what they would do?
Cheers

Re: MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
VW red is know for turning pink and is a common problem, could the garage polish up the old paint on the car and match the new paint to that instead of mixing up the original colour?
I'm not an expert on paint so perhaps someone else may have a better idea?

Cheers Mark.. could ask them. I mean as you can see from the picture (I know it isn't the whole car) that the paint is good for the age but will have a word

Yes it does look very red in the pictures, that is a huge dent how someone could do that and then drive off is unbelievable... Glad you managed to find a door.

Re: MK2 1.6 GT Driver Door
I know right!!! It's horrendous. At least I don't need to buy a new door and skin from VW Heritage. I will ask if they can polish it up or just ask and see what its like with just the door done and then go from there!!
