I've been holding back from posting a while since finding out the news about Ian

I met him many times at shows and events and spoke to him recently at my work,

I'm still gutted such a lovely guy is no longer with us

A real, real credit to the register too, always willing to help ANYONE who needed it. Willing to travel silly miles to lend a hand

Man we really will miss this guy a lot

Still taking it in really

Ian was a stalwart for the VW scirocco, not everyone's cup of tea as he would willingly point out any fault he could find with your car, but at the same time, as Sean pointed out, just want to get on with it and fix it for you or help fix it!

My heart goes out to his close family and loved ones, its no condolence to their loss, but rest assured we will all remember him with a warm smile and fantastic memories.

Like many others on here I've met Ian at the National Meet several times, sure he was the first person to walk up to me on my first Meet in 2009 to introduce himself, I remember back in 2013 I think it was I mentioned that I needed to reset my sunroof mechanism (he was trying to sell me a leather steering wheel as the time) as it was'nt in sink for opening, 5 mins later he was over with a screw driver removing the mechanism and showing me how to set it (something I might add is not in the Haynes manual) a great guy who wanted nothing more that to help out and get involved.

My condolences to his family and friends, he'll be missed far and wide and reading the last 4 pages of comments and stories left by people on here it obvious he'll be missed here as well.

Heath

What a massive shame.
I never met Ian but, by visiting this forum I felt a kindred spirit, and therefore felt I did know him.
I don't add much to this forum, but I look everyday, and everyday you would see a contribution from Ianaudia4, and jeez it was worth-while reading. I can appreciate how much high regard Ian was held.
In subjects I tend to look at 'Mk1 stuff only - but Ian covered every single one of them - he was that knowledgeable.

I'd also say his helpfulness is captured in every single message on here, what rare attribute - what a guy!

My sincere sympathy to his family and friends.

sorry to hear this about ian, i found him a top dog guy that when i needed some advice about the kjet system, i found he asked for my number and called within 10 minutes !!! gotta admit, the fella knew his stuff :-D .. he made sure the hotel details were passed to me and booked a double room for me, my partner and 6 month old baby scarlett ... you could kinda see the joy in his eye surrounded by many other scirocco drivers/fans/nuts . im glad i had the chance to meet him at the nationals for the first time ( and unfortunatly the last ) you will be missed
thoughts to his family .. i will do my best to turn up friday

Great shots from the vaults there Rohan.

In discussion with Will and Heath - we're aiming to make a donation to both Help for Heroes and British Heart Foundation subject to any advice from the family.

There are also plans afoot to create some sort of award at future Nationals to reflect the 'spirit' Ian brought to matters Scirocco.

Hope to see a few of you there on Friday.

Sean

Well, a long, cold day but what a privilege to have been there for the send off for Ian.

Coffin wrapped in the Union flag, full military honours, a Padre, bearing party in dress uniform, three volley rifle salute at the graveside - a proud family and a truckload of great people sharing memories of a very good man.

Took the opportunity to leave the big man with a Karmann logo'd key fob I happened to have with me.

Sterling effort by Colin, Tony and Michaela to make the long trek down - shame that Neil was in the end unable to join us and Kevin and Pete but we WILL mark Ians passing as a club properly next year at the National.

Time for a Jameson.

wow just been reading through this and I am shocked. Ian sold me a cassette player that I put in my car and he did it cheaper than what was listed on here. He also sent many messages helping me to install it. What a kind bloke. He also helped me with many queries that I have had on here and I will certainly miss his knowledge and help. RIP Buddy and thanks for all the advice and help!!

Apologies for being late to contribute, but I only just picked up the email over the weekend and felt I just had to come onto the forum and mark my respects for a great, great man who will be sadly missed.

When I first joined the Register Ian was one of the first people to welcome me on board and I was lucky enough to spend time with him at a few shows, not to mention the North-East mini-meets he used to organise whenever he was around.

He was without doubt one of the friendliest and most helpful guys I've met in my time on the Register. Back then I was still trying to restore my first Scirocco and Ian was always willing to offer advice and/or a willing pair of hands. I can still remember when he came down to my workshop along with Tony and Stu to take out the engine ... something I'd never have been able to do on my own.

However, Ian wasn't just a nice guy and willing pair of hands, he was also a walking encyclopaedia of all things Scirocco and great at helping you strike a bargain at shows for any much needed parts.

As I said at the beginning he was simply a great, great man and my condolences go out to his partner Chamila, his family and to all those that had the pleasure of calling him a friend.

If he's up there looking down right now I can just imagine him stood at the gates offering St. Peter some free vacuum hose and trying to sell him a set of Le Castelettes.

Very sad to hear about Ian

He helped me numerous times and I met him in Chester Le Street a few years ago when he showed me his MKII Storm of which he was very proud. My interactions with Ian showed him to be a real gentleman with a keen love for VWs of all shapes and sizes, but especially Sciroccos. I will miss his helpful hints and suggestions, and my condolences go to his family.
