Collected car earlier.

Apart from some oil residue smoke giving me a bit of a scare as it billowed from under the bonnet, the car is much quieter and smoother now. Plus it now has a proper fuel filler neck! had a look at the old one - it was made in three parts and held together with engineers' tape - yeesh.

The part number of the pump that came off was 171 906 091 A, as VAGCAT told me and as everyone has also said. But it's much shorter and thicker (ooer) than the one i had ordered.

Guess moral of the story is here that it's all well and good knowing your part numbers, but if you're getting your part from an online vendor you still can't guarantee that what you think you're ordering is what you're actually getting

You can get a rubber roller for wallpaper edges - is that the same?

Opened a dispute case with the seller on eBay - he definitely advertised this under the 171 906 091A part number and said it would fit a 1982 Scirocco.

In the photo below it's on the right - my knackered old pump is on the left. They are the same circumference but not much else.

Reason I put this up is to ask - exactly what car WOULD this fit?

I have to admit that I don't know a lot about pumps, what I do know is that it has to be a diaphram oscilating in a tube.
If, that tube is slghtly longer than the original, it will knacker up the way the K-jet 'understands' the volume of fuel it measures.
Volume and capacity being optimum here...

Hasn't been much to report recently. the car is still a rattly rustbucket but it's been running reliably for weeks and seems to relish the use it gets as a daily driver.

In keeping with my OEM drive, I coughed up £20 to get this (to replace the Timpsons special that came with the car, which looked like a house key)



Totally unimportant but I love doing these things.

I also went to the trouble of rebuilding the car's old hazard warning switch using bits of the GSF copy I had. The way it looked in the dash bugged me, but it valiantly gave its innards so that another switch may live.

Glad you are getting stuck in Rick. I must agree that GSF hazard switch did look cheap and cheerful but it served its purpose.

It saved my backside on the long drive home. For that I will be eternally grateful. Got the wee light working too. Bad connection in the wiring.

Roger texted me earlier to tell me - I am genuinely gutted for him.

It was nicked from a lock-up and was not insured....the poor guy

If you do have your car in a lock up it's a good idea to remove the rotor arm, it's easy to take out and you don't know it's missing till the car wont start. It's wont stop them towing it away but it may stop someone driving it away.
