front wing sealant?
i have removed both front wings on my mk2 ,to treat some minor corrosion on the inner wings before it becomes major corrosion. so when i am refitting them, can i put on any old sealant or does it have to be a particular type? also does the sealant run from the headlight tip of the wing back to the the windscreen? cos on mine when i was removing them there was only a small amount at the headlight ends and another small amount at the windscreen end. but i can see evidence that both wings have been removed before by a previous owner as there was obvious repairs to the inner wings on both sides and a small repair to the p/side wing. i am asking this because i have seen posts on this forum by people who said it was a complete nightmare to get the wings off due to the sealant using a heatgun or a blowlamp, but mine were suspiciously easy to remove, the passenger side especially! it practically fell off and the driver side only took 2 minutes cutting thru the sealant with a stanley blade. so i was thinking maybe whoever put the wings on last time just stuck a few blobs at each end. any one know?
remember, if it's got tit's or tyre's, sooner or later it's gonna give you trouble.

Use Tiger Seal and seal from the windscreen to the headlights as the whole point is to prevent water ingress, which as we know causes rust!

Re: front wing sealant?
On my Mk1 I did not use any thing on mine, just bolted them back on as I've got plastic wheel arch liners fitted and sprayed alot of waxoyl inside the arch before fitting the liners. I Did not see the point of sealing around the edge and if I need to remove the wings again it's alot easier but my Mk1 is not a daily drive but I still do use when it rains in the summer and no signs of rust under there 5 years later.
If yours is a daily drive and used in the winter with the salty/muddy/wet roads I would use some sort of sealant as VW did use it for a reason.

U-pol tiger seal is good, so is sikaflex. Don't use silicon based sealants, their shit. Tiger seal takes roughly 24hr to set completely, use 2" masking tape to hold the arch whilst drying. Also use white spirit or panel wipe to clean off any excess, do not use thinners it will damage your paint work.
