Handbrake warning light keeps coming on

Post by unknownmale »

My handbrake warning light keeps coming on when driving, Putting the handbrake on and off doesn't make it go away so Im guessing its not an issue with the switch. Perhaps a bad ground on the dash light itself?

Haven't had a chance to get it out and test it...Just wondered if this had happened to anyone before?

The handbrake warning light also acts as a warning light for low brake fluid so best check that first!

If not low fluid, does the light go out when you depress the switch under the handbrake with your finger? If so then it could be the handbrake lever is slipping off the switch when you are driving, I had the same issue on my Storm, I got a slightly bigger switch which solved the problem.

Hey Ian, brake fluid is topped off and the switch appears to be making contact dead in the center, theres no movement around so it can't slip off. Yes the light goes off when I press it. Going through everything i'm starting to thing that brake fluid reservoir switch thing, which I'm guessing monitors the fluid level is at fault, it's so intermittent and has no consistent reason to be coming on. I'll get a voltmeter on it tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.

Any down sides to bypassing it and keeping an eye on the brake level myself if it turns out to be at fault? CHeers
