paint code ?
can any one advise me where on my 82 rocco the paint code is? i know it is mars red, but a friend who is a paint sprayer/body repair guy told me there is 5 or 6 shades of mars red. i do not have a sticker in the boot or an original manual. thanks!
remember, if it's got tit's or tyre's, sooner or later it's gonna give you trouble.

Re: paint code ?
If you don't have sticker in the boot or your manuals, then you'll have to do what Nate says; the code won't be anywhere else on your car. The best way to get a colour match (if your car is currently in its original paint) would be take a bit of your car (the fuel filler door is ideal) so a match can be taken from that.

Re: paint code ?
Ah, I just wondered if my old car had found an owner who cared enough to come along to the Register.

Re: paint code ?
It was a standard car, two owners before me - it had been resprayed once but otherwise entirely original spec. £908 seemed a lot to spend on the car when I bought it! There are other Sciroccos I've owned (I've had at least a dozed mk2s) that I would rather have back, although this wasn't a bad car.
Have a flick through the album here for more pics of this car. I've made it public, so you should be able to see the pics ok:

Re: paint code ?
cool car! have u any pics of the engine bay and the interior? my car is a 1.6 carb and it has gt on the tailgate and gt on the b pillars. yours has gti on the tailgate cos its fuel injected, but it still has gt on the b pillars. is that that the norm? oh by the way mine had an fr engine code but the last owner buggered up that and put a golf mk2 lump in code rf. so it isn't quite original, which annoys me as i want to keep it totally original but money is tight so i have to suck it up! mine is off the road since 1994 and i bought it november 2009 and it drove perfect. i drove it 100 miles from where i got it to where i live and it went like the clappers. but i when is started to check it out ,the problems started. the body was perfect but mechanically poor. water leaks, oil leaks,no brake lights, no reverse lights, shocks were fukked, wheel bearing front left the same, discs kaput dashbourd cracked in the middle. oil light came on when revved over 2000 revs , drivers seat bolster ripped. oh and scabby aftermarket alloy wheels. when will it end?
remember, if it's got tit's or tyre's, sooner or later it's gonna give you trouble.
Re: paint code ?
since i got it,i have fixed the oil leak ( rocker cover gasket) water leak(heater matrix ) brake lights(brakelight switch in master cylinder) oil light on when revving engine was sorted by replacing oil pressure switch, reverse light( easy fix, conection not plugged in on top of gearbox new gas shocks and springs (-30mm) new discs , pads, stainless steel brake hoses back and front, second hand polo rear drums with new bearings, wheel cylinders, shoes, removed rear axle and petrol tank and filler pipe and grinded down to bare metal, repainted and waxoyled and new poly axle bushings.replaced dash bord with good secondhand one(nightmare!) put in 3 extra dials( oil pressure, volts and oil temp) original blaupunkt push button radio modified to work with an ipod.new middle exhaust pipe, new gear linkage bushings and short shifter. new front wheel bearing front left, new front ball joints, new front trackrod ends, sanded down front wishbones and repainted with black hammerrite.also flushed out coolant system(water was like chocolate) and refilled with g12 when replacing heater matrix. now i have discovered radiator is seeping so will probably have to do the same thing all over again. mine has the old top fill radiator, so i am gonna buy the the newer style closed radiator and fit a coolant tank on the passenger side front strut. i got a coolant tank bracket off a lad that was breaking a mk2 but i need to find out the measurements to fix the bracket to the strut tower. so, things to do, replace old topfill rad with new closed rad and new expansion tank.change timing belt cos i dont know when the last one was fitted. i think the rocker cover gasket is leaking again but the car has done less than 50 miles since it was replaced but has sat in a shed in pieces for the last 2 yrs. also on the tailgate there is a rubber boot at the top that the wiring runs thru for the rear wash/wipe this rubber boot is totally disintegrated and the boot lock seal is fukked, so that needs to be sorted. also i am gonna fit a 3rd led brakelight that i got off a 99-2000 opel corsa to the rear hatch. this of course is not original but i think it from a safety point will make it better.and stop me getting rear ended.thats if it ever sees the open road again. i have to admit that over the last 6 months i have been thinkin about braking the car for parts or selling it as is. but in the last 3 weeks i seem to have got a second wind and i want to see it thru.the car has been stored in a shed in my job since i got it in nov 09 and my wife and kids and the lads in work keep saying to me "are you ever gonna drive this fu%%ing thing!" and i think maybe next year! when i think about it i bought it for 1,000 euros and between this and that i must have spent another grand on it but it makes me feel good when i fit stuff on it/to it. i guess this is my mid life crisis!!

Re: paint code ?
No more pics than are in that album. All the badges are original factory spec. For some reason VW decided to put GT on the B-pillars for the GTIs.type53b wrote:cool car! have u any pics of the engine bay and the interior? .... yours has gti on the tailgate cos its fuel injected, but it still has gt on the b pillars. is that that the norm?
