Re: MK2 Scirocco Bonnet Sound "Waffle" Pads?
August update -
''Hi Sean,
At the moment I have just pretty much got to finish the drawings and send off to our toolmakers- I did have an idea and experimented with the possibility of doing them on our CNC cutter but the material we use is so hard we ended up requiring a proper press tool. I’m afraid progress has been slow as this is our busiest time of year- and would normally prefer to do this kind of work over winter as we can generally start and finish jobs- but nevertheless it is on the go.
The bonus of the press tool is that if we subsequently source any of the original material it would be easy enough to use the same tool.''

Here is a picture of the waffle pads installed in my car. These are from a 928 and they are identical to the VW pads - you just cut them to fit. Three 928 pads will do two Scirocco bonnets.

Yes - Porsche used the same material as VW and the Porsche OEM pads are still available. Or, as you pointed out, there are several places making aftermarket Porsche pads too if you want something a bit different. I didn't contact them, but if there was a demand, they might be also be willing to make up a Scirocco pad set as well.DJPremier wrote:Is that 928 as in Porsche ?

Thanks for the compliment, btw

Cool car Tom, so I assume those 928 pads come from Porsche direct then, what sort of price do they charge?

I bought the pads from Pelican Parts (www.pelicanparts.com), part number 928-556-285-02-M260
The pads are about $100 US each. So if you could get another person, it would run about $150 for each car (3 pads, 2 cars). Definitely not inexpensive. But then, the VW pads cost $187 for a set when they were available, and recently someone on vwvortex sold a left over VW pad set for twice that price, which was pretty much robbery in my view, but that's between the seller and the buyer.
I'm not sure what the UK sources for these pads might be - but they don't seem hard to find in the US anyway.
Best,
Tom

Another alternative source. Not waffle but available by the linear foot. Must be a UK source for this stuff somewhere !

I have spoken to Newton Commercials today, and I am sending them a template to work off, this is for their 'Hardura' felt pads to go bwteeen the internal structure like the original foam pads. Will keep you posted.

They've had my backing sheets as a template since last year - who have you dealt with today H? An Owen Phillips had been dealing (however slowly) with this up until now.
