GTII Engine Troubles

Post by MollytheMkII »

Hi guys,

Having trouble with my '92 GTII 8v at the moment. After a couple hour's driver the other day (to pick up some Ronal R10 Turbos :-D ) she started feeling lumpy and lacking in power. I assumed this could be due to the weight of the set of wheels but she'd been running fine for about half an hour despite this. When I finally got off the motorway and stopped at lights and went to pull off, I had to rev pretty hard to get her moving and anything around 2.5k revs and up the engine struggled and lost power, the revs dropped and almost stalled (felt like too much air or not enough fuel).

It is rev related, not speed and has made her pretty much undriveable!

Thoughts:

Fuelling - checked fuel filter, seems fine, fuel still getting to carb and being shovelled in just fine
Carb gasket split - removed carb, checked gaskets, seems normal
Spark plug gap - I don't think it's this but it's been suggested, will check the gap when I can, plugs and ht leads are new so not convinced this is a problem
Timing - Early or late ignition playing funny games?

Any help would be great as I can't drive anywhere at the moment!
Also, sorry for the super long post

Thanks,
Chris
