Drive shaft seal replacement.

Post by brucegtx »

I've recently discovered that the inner drive shaft seal us leaking closest to the gearbox. It looks pretty simple but someone said they weren't sure if there is a special tool required as there spring loaded inside when you remove shaft from gearbox.
Is this true or is it a simple job costing me about £5?

You can make a tool out of threded bar, nuts and washers and a metal bar at the end for them the go through, there is not alot of pressure so it does not need to be super strong. I had a problem getting the new circlip back on but found if I undone the middle threaded bar a little the flange would push in more so giving me more room to get the clip back on.
Guide here.

Picture of the tool my dad made, don't forget to drain the gearbox oil like I did or it pours out of the seal..
I did not need the metal box shaped spacers on the middle bar so don't bother with them.
