more help needed fitting mk1 scirocco speedo cable

How do you fit the rubber grommet (that sits in bulkhead) over that width of the thick circular screw on thread (which screws into rear of speedo) surely it can't stretch that far, unable to upload pic at the moment.

From what I can remember there is a little C clip holding it on, be careful removing it in case it flys off and lost forever.

Just found this, there is a C clip holding it on somewhere.

Thanks again - you know more about these than i do, i'll keep a close guard on that 'c' clip - i'll have a go over the weekend.

It was 15 years ago I replaced mine so hope I'm right.
