Need help, quick sharp!
I've got a set of G60 steels that I want to fit this afternoon, they're 15'', ET35. I need to know what size tyres are suitable, i'm guessing at 195/45/15 but I wanted something that looks quite low-profile, but won't affect the odometer/speedometer. I've trawled through the various FAQ's and stuff on this site and others, but i'm too thick/lazy/impatient to figure it out, can anyone help? They tyre fitter won't recommend anything as he doesn't want to be responsible for messing up the odometer reading! Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

185/55 - 15 (the factory standard tyre on mk2 golf 16v big bumper by the way) or 195/50 - 15 work well and retain near enough standard rolling diameter.
195/45 - 15 worth it only if you are lowerng the car otherwise the arches can look empty - i'll be doing this on the 16v soon.

It'll be taking a hit with the lowering stick in couple of weeks time, so I may well go with the 195/45/15 option. So they won't cause me any problems then, apart from looking a bit odd until it's lowered?

Unless it's a spot on concourse condition sort of car, why does it really matter..?

Why does it matter having lower profile tyres, or why does it matter if your odometer doesn't read correctly? If it's the latter, well because I quite like to know what speed i'm travelling, and how many miles i'm clocking up, i'm sure I can't be alone! I've had the tyres fitted now and they do look really good, but as you said GTXTRA, the arches do look empty now and it looks even more desperate to be slammed!

Re: Need help, quick sharp!
Ive only just realised that my roccos wouldave come with 13" wheels as standard not 14" as its on atm.
Which would explain why my speedo is pretty much bang on. As speedos normally show a higher readout than the reality especially moreso as the tyres wear down. most cars ive had have said 5-10mph faster then the satnav on the motorway.

I think my 195/45/15's mean the speedo reads - 3.3 %

Re: Need help, quick sharp!
i'm just about to fit lower profile tyres to my Ronal R15's to try and stop them rubbing (et25 so they dont half stick out lol) the diameter ends up being 20mm less so creates 10mm of more clearance, as a result m speedo as Ryan has said will show mw going slightly faster roughly speedo shows 60, actually doing 58, that will do for me as its slower and my speedo calibration on my 17 year old car is probably worse off that 3.4% lol

I've go these tyres, and yes, the speedo reads a tiny bit out, says I'm doing 50 and a half when I'm doing 50. Nothing to worry about. The brand I have a Nexin. Had then a couple of weeks and they're great so far, really good traction. Hope this helps.
