Re: 1982 1.5 CL Auto
It's going to be very retro (air-cooleds are my usual weapon of choice). Bodywork needs tidying but I'll try and keep as much original paint as possible. Rear arches, front wing, rear valance all need repairing/replacing.
Underneath, remove all the underseal, paint and detail everything.
At the minute some of the ideas are:
Outside:
Remove rear spoiler, wiper and badges.
Get rid of the pinstripe, maybe replace with a chrome strip.
Get rid of the front fogs.
Replace the grill with a one-piece jobby.
Black and silver number plates.
Chrome handles and front wiper.
Chrome Mk1 Golf bumpers. (Althought the more I look at, I quite like the black bumpers on there)
Lowered with a nice bit of rake but not slammed.
Steel 15" wheels with chrome trim rings and bolts, or I do have a set of Mini One Pepperpot wheels sitting in the garage.
Inside:
Get the drivers seat repaired.
Flat 4 woodrim steering wheel.
Chrome handbrake with Flat 4 wood handle.
Modify Flat 4 gear shift to work with the auto.
Retro head unit.
Upgrade the original speakers but keep the same locations.
I think that's most of the ideas I've got floating around at the minute but I've only had her two days and haven't really started playing yet (and I still need to finish my Golf!)

Re: 1982 1.5 CL Auto
Nice one mate, i saw this on eBay. CLs are my favourite Mk2 as they're so rare.
i have ordered some repair panels to replace my GTI's rear arches - get in touch with Chris Salaj at g.s.s.t@hotmail.com
he makes them himself and ships from belgium - i haven't received mine yet but I hear they're great quality.

There was a Haynes manual in the car and it looks like when the old boy stopped taking it to VW he maintained her himself

Re: 1982 1.5 CL Auto
MOT runs out end of this month so I thought I'd stick her in to see what needs doing before I take her off the road to work on......
Few advisories but considering I'll be changing the suspension, wheels and tyres and have already started sourcing parts to replace the rust, jobs a goodun'

Yes, but only because the British coupe buyer was (and is) generally more interested in a more powerful and better-equipped car. Hence why we never got the total poverty-spec Sciroccos with the 1.1 litre engines like they did in continental Europe. The Milkman wrote: Is it rare?
Just in case you're one of those people, rarity is not proportional with value.

Wow, this really takes me back to my first Rocco, a 1983 Mars Red CL
Same interior, the Econometer and I'm sure the consol fader. The engine was so quiet, often I couldn't tell if it was running or not
Loved that car.
Good luck with yours.
Cheers
Jeff

No, it's not the value, I've had a few rare cars and I make sure that the mods I do can be returned to stock if necessary.

I've not seen an Econometer before, I'm not sure if the one in mine works, I haven't seen it light up yet!Radorocco wrote:Wow, this really takes me back to my first Rocco, a 1983 Mars Red CL
