Conked out in the middle of the Antrim countryside today. Fuel pump gone.

I knew that noise it was making wasn't good

ho-hum - may as well get the clutch and rocker cover gasket changed while I'm at. if I can get there....

Do you know the part number Jim? I'm not sure if this is an EG-specific part you see, for the old 1.6 K-Jet

Sorry to hear that Rick, at least you got back to NI, and can fix it yourself.

99% sure the fuel pumps are the same for the 1.6 as the 1.8. Part number 171 906 091A.

Off to have several birds killed with one stone - clutch, fuel pump, filler neck and rocker cover gasket will all be done in one go

Hmm... my mechanic tells me that the fuel filler neck, clutch cable and fuel pump i supplied were all wrong

god knows how that happened - i checked the part numbers on VAGCAT

more to the point, aren't fuel pumps and clutch cables all the same?

Well, for a start, some cars have mechanical fuel pumps while others have electric ones... :-)

VAGCAT lists several RHD clutch cables, I think the one you would need is the 1490 mm part 532721335J.

I take it 171906091A is the fuel pump number you found?

1490mm is the length for a 1.8i.
A 1.6 requires a length of 1470mm.

Seems you can't trust everything you read on Vagcat, then:
(26) 532721335J
clutch cable
1490MM rhd 1.6/1.8ltr. 1.6ltr. carburettor engine / K-JETRONIC SCIR.GTI, GLI,GTS SCIR.CL, GL,GT,GTS
and
(26) 172721335H
clutch cable
1470MM rhd K-JETRONIC /

Well that's what truly confuses me. The mechanic said that the one I ordered was too short! But I need the shorter one...

Yes, been in the trade for decades and highly recommended by a lot of the NI guys.

I'm obviously just not as good at part-hunting as it would seem!
