mk2 gt2 rolling shell

Post by bigmart1977 »

hi all

cheers for the welcome to the site.

still in the process of getting a rocco, my friend has decided to rebuild his mk2 that he was going to sell me ooh well.

Recieved a call today from work colleague teling me of a poorly gt2 that is for sale, spoke to seller about condition here we go.

The car engine let go also causing some gearbox damage so that`s gone all empty, he started upgrading repairing any rusty spots, all inner sills and underneath all which is solid.

he lost all interest in the restoration so started selling bits of the rocco, all that is left is the rolling chassis minus outer wings beyond repair all interior is gone inc dash so basically a bare shell wiring loom still there.

can anyone give me some help advice to what an empty rolling shell is worth I`m stumped as not really knowing values, will be going to view.

thanks

Hi,
Difficult to say without seeing it in person or at least lots of detailed pics.
If the shell needs a lot of work to get back on the road probably about £50 at the most.
I would avoid it and hold out for a more complete car, especially since I picked mine up for less than 500 and there was pretty much nothing wrong with it.
These are still the unloved one as far as old VW's are concerned and there are still some great bargains to be had if you are willing to wait for the right car.

Ben.

i'd say that unless it's a seriously mint shell, then it would be worth about £70 per ton

Did you buy the shell?

If not then I will be selling a rolling shell in the next few weeks. It is one of most most solid shells I think I have seen so far however the colour does't really do it for me which is why I am re-shelling rather than butchering a good one.

You can see pics of it on my build thread - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=13453

When I sell it it will include the below;

Main shell
Bonnet
Doors + Handles and mirrors
Tailgate
Suspension
Hubs
Rear lights (not the best though)
Glass (possibly not the glass in it but glass will be included)
I am tempted to leave the standard mint seats in it too but it all depends on whether i can find the seats I want.

The shell like I say is mint but on the drivers side there was a little lacquer peel when the side trims were removed.

Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers

Phil
