Hi everyone i bought my scala a few weeks ago and have been working on it in the garage since then when i got it the previous owner told me about syncro problems with the gears plus a high clutch pedal so i drove it for the first time today to see how it drives as stated the clutch pedal is quite high is there a good way to check for adjustment? then when driving when it goes 1st to 2nd 2nd to 3rd 3rd back to second you can feel it as like a notchy rumble(best word i can think of) 3rd back to 2nd can crunch as well previous owner drove 40,000mls like this the info i need is
1, could it be a gear linkage issue and how can i check
2, could it be the clutch not adjusted properly again how is best to check
if the above is ok then its new gearbox time as i dont intend to use the car its not a problem to strip and replace the box and clutch so!!
1, where is the code on the box and will i need to buy the same box with that code
2, what clutch size do i need to get seen some 190mm , 200mm , and some 210mm car is 1987 scala carb 1.8 8v
3, any tips on easy removal rocco is now on front axel stands witing for me to decide what to do(will post piccys)
4, cant think of a question 4 at the moment ha ha
many thanks jonathan

Re: gearbox questions
The Haynes manual tells you how to adjust the cable, think its 10mm of free play on the pedal, check that first and then the bulk head for cracks where the clutch cable goes through.
Next thing I would do is change the gearbox oil, often over looked and never changed, makes alot of differance to the gear change.
Haynes tells you again on checking the gear linkage but may be worth getting a refurb bush kit as even if the gearbox is toast you may as well change the bushes for a better gear change.
