Can anyone who has access to ETKA tell me whether part number 049 115 017B supersedes to 056 115 019B ?
I need to know whether the 056-numbered part is the same thing. Thanks.

Re: Intermediate Shaft
049 115 017B has 17 teeth and is for an DX, EX, EW, HN, JH, KT, RE engine
056 115 017B should be the follow up number bij Volkswagen,
if you want to know for shure go to your dealer or just call him.

Re: Intermediate Shaft
Thanks Joost, but I still need to know.
I've bought a 'new old stock' intermediate shaft, which was advertised as being 049 115 017B - this is the part listed for the EW engine in VAGCAT.
The part has arrived - the original box has 049 115 017B on the original label. However, the actual shaft has 056 115 019B stamped onto it.
I've counted the teeth and there is 17 on it. I'm getting the feeling that, from typing this number into Google, that this part might not be the right one! (wrong shaft in the right box!)

Re: Intermediate Shaft
Been doing a bit of research and it appears that the '056' numbered part is the same as the '049' one. Indeed, a search of ETKA on Vagcat doesn't show the 056 part as being valid on any Volkswagen vehicle of the era (Golf, Jetta, Passat or Corrado).

Re: Intermediate Shaft
The numbers on the part itself are not always traceable, so this could also be in this case.
