Show us your Mk2 - picture thread.......
Re: Show us your Mk2 - picture thread.......
Owned my Scirocco for 13 years now, just turned 90k miles, one female doctor owner before me, new from Bridgend VW Sinclair in August 1992. I replaced the cambelt at 60k and again last year at 89k, pretty mint and standard (except for the grill, hate the standard spots/fogs).

Welcome back, car looks really tidy!
I'm curious what was the cause of the non-starting after it's long lay up in the end? I remember there were loads of suggestions on here of things to check.

Re: Show us your Mk2 - picture thread.......
It was timing in the end, way out. The only reason I didn't persue this route is that my mate (qualified Merc mechanic) assured me that he'd done it right. SO I went through everything else, including a brand new Weber for nothing! Cost me an arm and a leg in the end. What's really annoying is that there was nothing wrong with my original Pieburg, which would be a headache now to refit! The Weber gives me a hesitation when I bury the accelerator into the carpet (which is covered on this forum - job for next spring), which at least stops me from shagging the car. The only other thing I have to do now is to replace the front disk brakes and pads and fuel filler pipe, mine is starting to corrode, I have a new one to replace but again a job for the spring. It's just great to be able to drive the car again and get rid of my VW Polo! Hopefully I'll get to some of the shows next year.Tim_R wrote:Welcome back, car looks really tidy!

Been up to my garage today, washed and polished the Storm. Took it for a drive out and got chatting to a bloke in the local Shell garage who was driving a 1988 Porsche 944.

Took the Scala out for a little drive, 150 mile round trip, it was just nice to be out on some pretty empty roads for a change!

Welcome along to the register, I noticed you said you removed the front wheel arch liners are you putting them back? If not you'll need to keep it clean in there, it's the down fall of the Mk1 Scirocco as its a really great mud tap in those corners and thats why VW fitted them to the Mk2.
