What batteries are we all running?

Post by Boumsong »

I've currently got an Exide 60AH battery fitted, its a few years old and on these chilly mornings it struggles to get going, takes maybe 6 - 10 cranks before it'll start. I'm considering changing the battery first before I look for other causes.

Would it be safe to fit a bigger battery? Such as a 68AH or maybe even a 75AH?

I have a Bosch 063 41ah battery on my Storm, been on nearly 5 years with no issues.
On my Scala I have a 60ah Exide, again no issues in 4 years.
On both on my cars I sourced OEM battery covers, a sort of sleeping bag that was standard on some MK3.5 Golf cabriolets.

Halfords HCB075 Calcium maintenance-free, capacity 60Ah.

I've had the car ten years and think I put the battery in a couple of years after I got it, so I guess it's eight years old, had no problems with it.

Bosch 063 41ah battery on my daily driver Golf GTi (DX engine) I have no problems with it cranking over even in the cold winter mornings, it's been throught the last 4 winters which have been cold!
I've the same battery on my Mk1 Scirocco but that gets unplugged from the car in the winter.

Bosch 063 all the way.
I've tried lots of other makes of battery and as soon as cold weather hits they just go flAt for no good reason.

I use Alphaline 065 54ah - my previous one was perfect for a good 5 or 6 years, but I changed it out of a sense of duty.

My current one has been fine also - the only problems I've had with it have been self-inflicted, with a badly wired stereo draining it (see previous thread).

Bosch s4 on the Toledo. My old Rocco used to have whatever I could lay my hands on cozI was skint. The mk1 will be getting another Bosch. The price difference between that and a cheapy makes it a no brainer
