mk2 Scirocco DX bottom end swap

Post by dreleask »

Hey folks,

as above i am looking to swap the bottom end of my DX engine,

I happen to have a 2.0L mk4 Passat (engine code - 2E)

my DX isnt standard though, i have already swapped in a TSR pack A head, Quattro throttle body, 16v WUR and a couple of other small bits and pieces.

my question is this, how easy is it to actually swap the 2E bottom end onto the Rocco, I know I need an adaptor for the distributor, but what else would I need?

also, which crank would make it a 2.1L? I've been told a diesel crank would make it a 2.1, but I don't know which one?

How many horse would it be putting out after all this too?

Thanks for reading (I know its been a bit long)

The main thing to be aware of is that the 2E is a tall block engine - the block is some 15mm taller than your DX block. This can cause issues with bonnet clearance and also the exhaust manifold. Aside from the dizzy ring you'll need a breather block off plate. Quite a good guide here (although mk2 Golf based)

Seem to remember the 3a is a short block 2L but not easy to find these days.

I had a 2e on digipants in my mk2. No clearance issues, apart from not being able to find a 4 branch that would clear the rack.
