Let get this up to date. :)

I have finally found the gearbox I have been hunting out for what seems like an age. It is a 3+E, the 4th gear is longer than most 5th gears. Should make traveling to shows and Europe more affordable.

It came from my mates 1.1 Mk1, We removed his engine on Thursday (It broke my skate board!!). I gave it a quick clean this afternoon. The plan is to clean it up and spray it with engine lacquer to give it a vintage machine type look. It will look a bit like this but cleaner (that's degreaser :hehe: ) If it looks poo I will paint it satin black.

I have wanted some of these door pins since my mate pulled some out of his hoardings but they didn't make them any more until now! At £7 posted I could not turn them down. Trimsport FTW

Only down side is they are modelled on a Golf tee. It is not a Golf. :-[

I had 4x Mad'in centres put aside for my 14" dishes and barrels but one of them had a sanded logo that disappeared when painted.

So I bought my old ones back from my mate and swapped some centres about to get the best set of centres for the 14's that I could out of the 8 I had.

Thank you Sir!!

With painting the floor soon approaching. a colour had to be chosen. I narrowed it down to four bright swallow tail colours.

Ocean blue vs Laguna blue vs Marino yellow vs Bright yellow.

Then narrowed it down to Bright yellow or Ocean blue

The main worry was my interior but they all work with my trim but I have ruled out Marino and Laguna.

Arun and Nic the legends helped me strip the rest of the floor. This allowed me to get it all coated in epoxy mastic in one go before it rusted in the dampness of the unit. It has been the most drawn out floor prep ever and it is still not done haha!

Early Sunday morning I made my way to the unit with a killer hangover to meet Glyn. Todays area was my bulk head, filling holes and repairing the damage I had done removing the servo strengthening plate with spot welding drill bit and a chisel (power file in future FTW). He worked magic with the hammers and dollies beating it back into shape.

Larger holes welded flush.

The smaller holes were plated from the rear and filled with weld from the front.

Coming soon raintray repair and wiper delete.

I cut up the large repair panel I bought, trimmed it and de-rusted it. It is not in much better condition than mine but Im sure we can make something work.

Nice update - This car will become one of the Mk1 legends i feel!

Will you paint over the underseal? Good colours - it was the orange or yellow all the way for me

Great work going on Winston, always look forward to your updates. I think I prefer the ocean blue would make your car more unique and it's a great colour .

Can't wait to get started on mine but it's just a case of hunting down metalwork at the moment .Could be a while lol.

Amen to that Mark!

Another Sunday morning with Glyn has passed. Slowly chipping away at the list of welding in the engine bay. The repair panel was repaired and cut to match the hole I had cut. It was ever so slightly different, almost bigger. This must be down to tolerances in the presses we thought? Bit of welding, hammering and grinding got it looking like it was never touched. It still needs a final whip over but WOW!!

He also made a start on the raised platie to cover my blower motor. lots more to come.

After having a couple of weekends off me getting silly drunk/hung over. Glyn came down today and boxed off my bulk head. The bulk head has 12hours in it so far.

Because I am getting an Autocavan replica pedal box. I needed studs on the inside for it to bolt to. Glyn made it happen.

Now I have made a start on the chassis legs, cleaning up were the old engine mount brackets used to be.

I did a mega shift last sunday 8am till 2am with a few pit stops in between.

Arun came over at 7ish. some of the pictures he took.

Baywatch

Image

Bolt holes welded up but the pressed indents remain as requested. I hate it when people just plate over the heater details.

Image

Random splashes of colour.

and.. when you see it....... + Floor primed ready for stonechip

Big shout to Arun for once again putting Ideas into metal.

This weekend I went to visit Alexander (SCIROCCOSILBERFEDER) and Marshall (shavhead) to trade, swap parts, chat and gain some knowledge. I loaded my car up on Friday night ready for the journey derby bound on Saturday morning.

I got these early rear 1/4 window surrounds from Alexander at diner time. I am told they are quite hard to get hold of. I need another one to repair the rusty one, if anyone happens to have any going spare?

I then made a visit to Marshalls Mk1 wonder land on the way home to drop off some parts. I had to drag my self away! I must have said I was going home about 10 times but always ended up getting side tracked. such an awesome place!

Sunday morning I met Glyn. he boxed off most of the driver chassis leg and the wiper hole in the new tailgate. I was a little worse for ware so I only have a tailgate picture that I took tonight. I went straight home to bed once he had finished. :-[
