There is 2 types of fuel filter a thin one about 6cm in diameter and a fatter one about 10cm in diameter do you know what size is fitted to your car or even better measure it or a picture and I could tell from that.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the Mann filter. Part number not visible on mine so thanks for the info.

Also worth fitting new copper washers when changing the fuel filter, one side is the same size as the sump plug washer (need 2), you will get 1 of the other end with the filter but really need another 1 the same size. The fuel system is a high pressure so for the sake of a few pence worth changing them.

VW part number for the air filter 049133843. Eurocarparts and GSF seems to list them by size so might be worth measuring yours to check.
I fitted a K&N filter in mine as its a pain to get the air filter out and you don't need to replace a K&N every year!

Later injection cars should have the larger fuel filter, still available from the dealers!

Im having trouble sourcing a fuel filter for my Gtx, its the smaller of the two but gsf and euros claim my car has the bigger one! The existing filter is a Kayser which I cant seem to find a cross match for (looks as if theryre no longer in business). I dread to think how long its been on the car!

If you can post up a picture of what's fitted? From looking at your old posts you might have a larger type but its hard to see in the picture.
The smaller ones are available I'll get the part number next time I'm at my parents house as I fitted one to a mk2 storm last year.

The smaller fuel filter (as fitted to my Storm) has the VW part number 431 133 511, no longer available from the dealers but VW Heritage sell them as do Crazy Quiffs. Mine was a Bosch filter so maybe your local Bosch retailer may be able to get hold of one for you.

The later type is still available from the dealers, part number 893 133 511.

I think it was the Mann WK618 filter that I fitted.
