Failed its mot!!!
Failed its mot!!!
Well , forgot that the mot was due and just managed to get it booked in for today pretty much last minute.
Got a phone call from the garage to say it had failed on 4 things.
1 , a window wiper
2 , a cracked wheel ( got another set I'm just painting, so will swap the wheels over )
3 ,broken rear spring
4 , and finally a ????? Mechanic wasn't sure what it was or how to fix it ( no kidding ) but over the phone described it as some sort of mount holding the rear anti roll bar that had fell down . He wasn't even sure how it was held in place or where they can get one ( if possible )
Since I wasn't home I didn't make it back to the garage before it shut so will have to see if I can get back early from work on Monday to see what they are on about.
The mechanic reckoned he was too young to no about ' older cars like that '
Couldn't make it up

Re: Failed its mot!!!
Re point number 4: if he didn't know what it is, how did he fail it? (got to know what it is to enter it on the system) and more to the point, why is he doing tests?! I suspect it'll be the hateful clamps that hold the ARB to the rear beam. They are available, I think from crazy quiffs

Re: Failed its mot!!!
Hi
Not a bad result when you forgot all about it.
1 & 2 fixable.
3 I'll have a look about but I don't think I have any springs.
Might be worth a pm to Duncan (MacColl) after he broke his last car.
4 Agree with Nate " Thing hanging down " never seen that on a fail sheet before.
Could be a clamp see this link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Golf-MK1-GTI- ... 4173da70c5
Worth a look here for info http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carf ... mp#p107616
Keep us informed of your progress.
I go to an auction in Dunfermline on a Monday night so could transport / meet you there if you need anything brought through from this side.

Re: Failed its mot!!!
Yeah , I'm assuming its the clamp possibly, worrying that he didn't know how it's held in place or where it attaches . Hopefully it will be a bit clearer when I get the chance to see it. Cheers Nate , I was checking out crazy quiffs earlier , hopefully that's all it is. Thanks Sandy but ill get a new spring anyway.
Will let you know what happens ( especially with all this strange old cars )

Re: Failed its mot!!!
A very good point. Suspension and brake components should always be replaced as an axle set. In an ideal world tyres should be tooianaudia4 wrote:Better changing both springs on the same axle so to speak mate!
Re: Failed its mot!!!
Agree , both springs is the way to go. Often found you only renew one side and within weeks /months the opposite side goes anyway lol , or is that just my luck

Re: Failed its mot!!!
Hey mate,
This thread covers the clamps, can be bought quite easily now..
http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carf ... 10&t=15196
I made my own steel ones just like the last post as on both Roccos I've owned they have been a mess, not sure on strength of Stainless probably fine. Might have a spare one but nightmare to change.
Rear springs, Standard? TBH I have ones that look pretty second hand if your stuck in the short term. Might be worth considering going for 40mm lowering all round with good quality dampers, Various suppliers at different qualities.
Give us a PM if your stuck, can speak to the other folks local to me

Re: Failed its mot!!!
Had a rummage in the shed and found these,

they were "painted " just to keep the surface rust at bay.

I also found these if you need them to fit the springs yourself.

If you prefer "new" just let me know.
Can deliver to Dunfermline on Monday or meet you in Kincardine later that night on my way home.

Just realised these are front springs.

So how was this mystery item failure worded on the original fail sheet?Weerocco wrote:Long time coming ,but eventually got it thru today. A few advisories but nothing serious.happy days once more
Re: Failed its mot!!!
Would loved to have gone Sandy but unfortunately have something else on!!
Nate , after picking up the car from the garage ( whilst waiting on parts ) I never picked up the fail sheet somehow!!.
I then took it to a different garage as I had lost a bit of faith in the 1st garage as it sounded like they weren't up to scratch on older cars lol.
