Another Mk1 back on the road.......

Post by malmac »

Hi all,

Just thought i'd put a few pics of my mk1 Scirocco GTi on the site as it's a proud moment for me !!!
It's been in bits in various garages over the past five years but i've finally put it back together and back on the road.
I'm not sure if any of you have seen this one before, it's a bit of a strange one, i've been advised that Gti's never came in this colour and that it's quite rare to have a FF'd tilt and removable sunroof, it also had KPH on the speedo till i changed it so i'm in the process of contacting previous owners to find out more about it.

I'm only the 4th owner and the inner wings are in great nick, body work was pretty scabby though so had to replace the front wings, doors, arches, bulkhead section etc, worth it in the end though. Engine & gearbox all original.

I've always been a believer in keeping cars like these as original as parts availability allow, although each to their own i suppose.

Anyway take a look, it doesn't come up to the high standards of many of the other projects i've seen on here but i'm no mechanic or painter but i'm really happy with it.

couldn't download pics so visit my foto site http://s1249.photobucket.com/user/malster6373/profile/

(ps, if link doesn't work i'll sort pics in next few days)

Great to see its finished, I bet you've been enjoying driving it. Looks like you've done a good job on the restro in the pictures.
Now get back out there and enjoy it and wait for all the people to come over to you in carparks, petrol stations etc saying "I always wanted one of those" or "I used to own one" "lovely car..." :vcool:

Thanks for the kind words folks, there were times when i never thought it would get on the road again, then slowly but surely things started to click. I'm at that stage now though were due to it being freshly painted i'm too scared to leave it alone in case someone reverses or opens their door into it, come on - you all know what i'm talking about.

Just need to iron out some of it's running gremlins, nothing major but enough to be annoying - but that's a different thread.

First day i had it some stranger pulled up in his van and liked it even more than me, snapping away with his camera, so had some pleasant remarks thus far.

Just going to enjoy it till the bad weather comes then decide it's fate, moth ball it?.......but then i've got no car - decisions decisions....... :hehe:

ps When's the next meet/show? i'm not sure what the "national" is ??

When parking in a supermarket park furthest away from the door and with a white line of 2 parking bays in the middle of the car, when in pay and display car parks find a end space and get as far over as possible ( my wife complaines about me driving around and around a car park!). In town I try and park in the street as the front and rear bumpers are plastic so no paint to knock off!

This seems to work for me except once when I parked in a pub car park away from everyone else and some idiot still managed to park near me and opened the door on my car and chipped the paint off, there was loads of space left in the rest of the car park, I did not spot the paint chip till I got home. :ire:
