Fail MOT on broken hand brake cable

Post by mark1gls »

My Mk1 had its MOT today and when they tried to do the hand brake test the cable broke. :ire:
I'm now having trouble find one. I have the old style manual adjustment brake shoes in the rear drum. The car is not listed on Euro car parts and on the GSF website the handbrake in the picture looks nothing like it at one end but its about the right lengh
I make it about 1710mm (its 35 years old so it wont sit straight to measure it!)

Any Ideas on where to get one before Thursday this week as I have a car show to go to on Sunday and need it retested on Friday....

I managed to find some

Popped into Euro car parts today and after they looked on a older system as my car is not listed on the internet, they managed to find some, after I to took one of the car and measured it they are 1705mm long and Mk2 ones are longer and Mk1 golf ones are shorter!

Glad I went to the shop and spoke to someone to check or I would be waiting tell next week to fit some. I'll be doing it tonight when it cools down outside so retest Monday and hopefully another 12 months MOT.
Thanks for that MacColl, I did spot them and I do think they will also fit, just needed some ASAP..
